Breakthrough: New Carbon Battery Could Give Smartphone Super Long Lasting Life

kinkoo-backup-battery-for-iphone-01As Apple maintains a webpage devoted solely to suggesting customers improve battery life of their iPads: “update to the latest software,” “use your iPad regularly,” “let it breathe” and 15 other actions, today, battery life is everyone’s problem. But now, this problem might one day be overcome.

According to Beacon News, a team at the energy storage technology company AdvEn Solutions has developed a new technology which involves using carbon as a cathode in lithium-ion batteries. This carbon battery not only has a higher energy output but also charges faster and lasts longer than existing batteries.

This is doable. The team, led by researcher Xinwei Cui, found that carbon is not only cost-effective and safe to use, but also has an energy output that’s as much as five to eight times higher than the lithium-ion batteries that are currently on the market. It also performs better than lithium-sulfur and lithium-air batteries, which are two other technologies currently in development.

The team aims to have made a prototype by the end of the year, but it might be a long time before we see it used in smartphones or anything else commercially available, as Cui said that “We’re on the right track. It’s very young but promising.”

In the meantime, of course, we must look into other portable backup battery for iPhone, Samsung and other gadgets instead, such as Kinkoo Infinite Nova 10500mAh portable charger I am using.
