Face challenge with great courage and indomitable spirit

Nick Vujicic was born with no arms or leg. When Nick was born his father was so shocked he left the hospital room to vomit. It was difficult to raise a child with this condition, but both parents did their best to give Nick confidence and courage. His father made him swim when he was only 18 months old. He was constantly bullied at school and remained in hyper depressive conditions. At the age of 8, he tried to commit suicide by drowning himself.  He admits to us there were plenty of times when all he wanted to do was give up.  Nick didn’t understand the point to his life and therefore wanted to end it. but he doesn’t let the details stop him.

Thank goodness he’s alive because he’s shared his story with millions of people around the world, inspiring them to keep on going.

The brave 26-year-old – who is mainly torso – plays football and golf, swims, and surfs, despite having no limbs.

In 1990 he won the Australian Young Citizen of the Year award for his bravery and perseverance.

Describing his surf tuition with Miss Hamilton, he said: “She was amazing. I was terrified at first, but once I got up there it felt absolutely fantastic and I caught some waves pretty well.”

“I have a very low centre of gravity so I’ve got pretty good balance.”

And during a trip to Hawaii in 2008, he learnt to surf with help from professional surfer Bethany Hamilton, who had her arm bitten off by a shark when she was 12.

His ability to pull off 360 degree spins on his board got him on the front cover of Surfer magazine.
